Teen Trail Movies
The lost Teen Trail movies have been found!
Thought to have been discarded many years ago by Ethel Reiser, the former director of the summer camp program, after she had them transfered to VHS videotape.
"Why should I have kept the originals... who projects film anymore." The VHS was then lost or misplaced. (NOT ANYMORE SEE ABOVE POST) Ethel herself found the original film cans buried in her garage.
" I told Bernie to throw them away... good thing he didn't listen to me..."
Ethel mused.
So far, Steven Fialkoff, Film & video editor, sent the 6 inch, 8mm film cans, to be cleaned and analyzed for future transfer to DVD.
"Hopefully we won't have to lose a frame of the precious footage from 1963 through 1968"
Ethel wants to have a party and invite all those interested in seeing the faces of their fellow teen trailers in 2009 and on screen from over four decades ago. What do you think? Add a comment please.

Hi Thanks for bringing my youth back
How do I get a copy?
Hey this is Jill Katz in Stuart Florida (formerly of Brooklyn). Does anybody know me ? :) Would consider coming up for Ethel's party ... Pease keep me in the loop.
I'm in.
Jill....This is Ana Drexler. My email is anadrex@aol.com I would love to hear from you
You know Ana, your post reminded me that I may have some film of you (and others) at 8 years old in the baseball field at a Fillmore day camp "field day" on E. 58th st. You were dressed up as a "native american" or indian squaw complete with face paint. Of course there are no buildings from Kings Plaza in the B.G.
Hi everyone! Janet Mines Krings here...I have in front of me my six week Teen Trails schedules from 1967 & 1968! Did you know we were not supposed to be given more than 50 cents to spend each day? I can't wait to see these DVD's but I can't remember if I was there two years or three. Ana--you must know?? Steve--thanks for doing this!
Hey There, Jeff Horowitz here. I did Teen Trails for 2 maybe 3 summers. Love to see the film. Hi Jill. Hi Steve, I remember you. Let me know when available. Living in Mass now. Near Jay Schachne and Alan Silk. Keep in touch. Jeff
Janet Mines Sent us this 1967 Schedule. How she managed to pop this over to us so quickly is amazing. I am still looking for my own personal teen trails 8mm film to add to the DVD's. Scan your old TT pix and we'll post them.
This certainly brings back many memories, especially of the earliest days of TT. I would be interested in obtaining the DVD's, too. BTW, hi Jill.
You guys are bringing tears to my eyes. Palasades Park, Dude Ranches, Riis Park, Jones Beach, the Catskills!!! Steve's brother Jay playing the guitar, Lee doing hand checks in the dark on Thursday nights!!!!!My first true love etc.!!!!
Hi Jill!! (private comment fwd) Alan Levy
This is great! I'm interested in the DVDs and the party. Thanks, Bruce, for forwarding this info. I'm sending it on to Diane Cohen, Barbara Selkowitz, and my family.
Would love to hear how people are doing.
Visiting my grandchildren in Israel and enjoying the comments in between changing diapers. I've never attended a reunion in my life but for this I would make an exception. Steven thanks for putting the project in motion.
Michael Rosenbloom (aka (little) Posey)
I screened the DVD's. There are 4 (1963-64) (65) (66) (67). About 45 mins each DVD.
I particularly, like the "dress- up dinner" parade at the Nemerson that appears at the end of each summer. The shots of long lines of kids on horseback at the dude ranches. I see Lee Gartield looking so good on horseback. The horseplay at the pools.
For those of you who can't or don't remember, teen trails eligibility was from 12 to 14 years of age. Best part of the viewing was realizing that the teens today aren't very different looking than we were, except for the hair bows, kerchiefs, glasses.... The film's image quality overall is quite good. Although there are some overexposed segments that wash out. Guaranteed to bring a smile to those who view themselves.
The tall blonde in the center of the first photo is Cindy Neuwirth, I believe.
I have it on good faith from my sister Michele that the photo of the girl in the plum top (underneath Steven in the rubber tube) is Marsha Sudek. Little by little, we will figure these folks out!
M. Soodak is correct!
Steve Fialkoff is in the Tube!
The boy in the pool on shoulder's is bro. Jay @ 12. More frame stills to come... BTW remember the original film is actually 6mm square... not too many pixels in that.
It might be interesting to mix in a musical score from the top hits of the time. As for reunions, I think Pose has it right. I'm shocked Binzo hasn't weighed in yet.
More Pix posted... BTW there was a mystery phone call from an ex teen trailer claiming to have movies from 1968. I am investigating.
Hi,,,this is marlene bolender shapiro... I LOVE THIS!!! i have some personal pics that i will try to download and send out to everyone.. I would have been the short one with pearlized cat eyeglasses and bangs...long dirty blonde hair.. I would love to go to a reunion... keep me posted.. thanks marlene
Hi all. This is Holly Trencher Pivor--3 years in Teen Trails and then a counselor. Great summers. Hey, I just saw two photos of myself included here--one of me all dressed up at the Nemerson. I would love to be part of a reunion.
Stew Small, ex teen trailer sent a photo in for posting. I added it to the bottom of the page. Though it has nothing to do with teen trails, I thought it was a great reminder of the way our community made "chicken salad from chicken doo-doo". Yes that is a car garage turned into a camp "bunk"
Great job Stevie, leave it to a Fialkoff to putsomething together like this. Those summers were fantastic, I always looked forward to the trip to the Nemerson, the Dude Ranch and the bus rides were fun too, especially the back of the bus. Awesome softball games, fond memories of Ralph, the bus driver, he really hit the ball well. Big Posey, the original, Mark Rosenblooom.
Leave it to Stevie Boy to create this wonderful site after a few decades of "wouldn't it be nice". Well, it is nice to see these pictures, look at that schedule (was it really only four days/week for six weeks?) and read all the great comments. I can't wait to see the films!
The Dvd's are ready for duplication. I would still like to hear from more people but let's get these out. I have specific orders from several people and some vague requests. In a few days I will tally it up and figure out the "split".
Big response from the Fillmore crowd. Older Mill Basin crowd just beginning to weigh- in. I would appreciate some help from you to contact old friends or give me some married names and states that they may have moved to. Sfialkoff is the email address the dot com is easy to figure out. (or leave your clues on a comment.)
This project has had many fringe benefits I think I may write about the encounters I have had in the future. Stay tuned.
hey original big posey. Ralph was my hero, especially the DA hairstyle. alan levy
Those were the best years. Karen Weiss here. We were lucky kids. Thanks for doing this Steve. I would love to come to the party!I wish we could go back in time. The dude ranch was the best and getting all dressed up as well as the midnight swim at the Nemerson were super.
Wow! Thanks Steve !. This brings back lots of memories. Singing on the bus, the trips and friends. I always love Jones Beach and changing on the Bus after a whole day in the sand and sun! I didn't see myself in any picture ( who could miss a tall skinny blonde kid!) I did see Marty Algaze in a few . Steve Lenowitz and Barry Leibowitz as well.
Dennis Browne ,Karen Weiss, Andrea Levy and I still keep in touch by email.
Where did all the years go? I went to TT for 2 years when Dennis, Jay and Posy were there as well. Can't remember the years though. I'd love to see the DVDs and to see everyone at a reunion. I just went to Madison's Class of 68 40th !
I'm living in Merrick NY.
My email address is RalphD51@aol.com
Hi Stevie!!!! What a blast from the
past!!! I love it. In the picture with me(????),
is Barbara Meyrowitz at the far right. I have her's and Rhonda Levy's email if you want it.
I really did hate those awkward years. I was a late bloomer, but count me in!!!!
I do have group pictures from Fillmore Day Camp if you want them.
Andi Levy here...These days always lived in my heart...thank you for sharing and yes, I would love a DVD. Check out pic 196364Disk 1 #78.That's ME in the very fashionable eyewear. Anyone surprised I married an optician? Audrey Gold on far right. Pic 1965#248 Audrey Gold (center) Pic 1967 #428 Ava Goldstein with green dress and white bow. Saying hi to "my Stuie"...Bobby..Jay...Alan..Dennis..Ralph...Billy..Suzi...
Karen...Judy...Susan Brust.. PS236'ers...Hi to all!
And thanks to Steve for getting the word out. Would definately do a reunion...we should hold it on a bus or in a parking field so it feels familiar!
Hi - this is Mike Cohen.
Steve - this is great! Thanks so much for doing this! Count me in for the party and the DVDs. And - let's play some stoop ball at the party! I live in California (silicon valley). email is michaelhcohen@gmail.com
Hi, Steve!
This is Joanne Spicehandler Siskin. You did a great job of collecting all this and creating a shared memory for all of us. Fillmore was a great community to grow up in. Hi, Holly! Judy Ferbel and I have remained close friends of the years and wondered recently about you, Barbara Baval, Robin Klein, Ruth Weisbard and others in elementary school crowd. Remember our singing group in the talent show? Hi, Michael and Mark, Ana Drexler, and Mike Cohen! I am currently living in Plantation, Florida, and my parents are nearby in Boca Raton.
Forgot to mention - I can confirm that your photo of Cindy Friedmutter is indeed Cindy, and that the person on the left of the photo is Sherry Yentis, and on the right, Francine Federman.

Hi Joanne Ruth Weisbard here. Still living in Oregon since 1969 Had great times in Teen Trails, remember the World's Fair with counselor Melanie, and visiting the Amish country My brother Allan is in Southern Oregon. Hi Michael Rosenbloom This brings back great memories
I remember Ruthanne. Not Joanne Ruth. What gives? By the way, since I don't remember you coming back east after the move, I never got to ask you how it was making the move in the Connestoga Wagon. Was there a guy named Wishbone who prepared meals in the chuckwagon? Are you in touch with Carol Yudelman?
Joanne: A belated Mazel Tov (am I allowed to give you a greeting in Hebrew on this site or are we supposed to continue to ignore the fact that 99% of the campers were members of the tribe?). Roz gave me the good news. I'm in touch with her periodically and she gives me updates about your parents, whom I love very much. Send them my best. You should have heard some of the conversations between my mother (z"l) and yours, this at a time when my mother was ninety-odd years old. You would have died laughing. Please give your e-mail address to Steven and ask him to pass it on to me so I can write you. Good luck.
Hi Joanne, Ruth Ann, Michael "Posey" Holly (Hollis) Trencher Pivor here. I live in Weston CT with my husband Jeff (we met at Madison High School). We have 2 grown sons. At least once a year we take a drive into Brooklyn--we check out the old neighborhood and get some good deli on Avenue T. I hope we can see each other again at a reunion.
Hi Michael, Joanne, Holly(thanks for sending me this link) Ruth Anne Weisbard here. Carol Youdelman lives in Florida.I kept in touch with Sarah Davidson (preschool camp counselor) and her daughter Judy in Israel Sadly, Sarah died a few years ago and Judy died last year. It was hard to leave NY my senior year of high school to go to Oregon, My father Bob died a few years after we moved. Joanne, we were in the singing group in a talent show at PS 207. This is really exciting, Fillmore Gardens was the best place

Hi Fellow Teen Trailers! Thanks to Art for posting this link on the Fillmore Gardens page of Facebook. This is Dale Robin Goodman, so glad to find all of you here! SO many names I know and want to know more about in present day. It was indeed a good time, and we were lucky to grow up in such a unique place. I would love to know if that viewing party has happened/will happen. I live in Maine but would love to attend! I just posted some Fillmore (not Teen Trails) photos at the Fillmore FB page. Hi, everyone! I'm Steven Kalka. I attended Teen Trails from 1964 to 1966, and Fillmore Day Camp in the early 60s. I really enjoyed viewing the photos. I remember many of the faces. I recall Teen Trails Director Lee Garfield.
What I found humorous about the 2 buses is that they had a painted message that said 'Air Conditioned', even though they weren't. Lee Garfield once facetiously told one of the drivers to paint over that message.
I now live in Nassau County on Long Island (some of us say it as "Lawn Gisland").

Hello,
Nice blog i like it
There are certain standards that have to be maintained to classify a film as a historical period film.
Hi Steven. Harold Gutman here. The pictures from the old days are great. I still have Fillmore day camp pictures and PS 207 class pictures. I spoke to Kenny Sanders yesterday and he checked out your web site.
yes harold, thanks. glad to see people are still tripping across this little treasure trove.
